Your private atlas

Macaw displays published historical trade and investment data. Saved places remain in your browser's local storage until you remove them or clear site data. There is no server-side personal atlas database, advertising or analytics.

Sign-in and hosting

The service runs on Mainframe's Hetzner server in Germany. Your username and salted password hash protect access. An essential, secure HttpOnly cookie holds a random session identifier for up to eight hours. Sign-out or a login-service restart ends the session. Session records stay in memory. Login-attempt counters expire after fifteen minutes and do not record IP addresses.

Network requests necessarily include your IP address and browser information. Operational error logs are rotated, with up to three 10 MB files per service. Passwords and session cookies are not logged by the app.

External services

The atlas loads typography from Google Fonts, which receives the network information required for those requests. Imagery, geographic data and source snapshots are served locally. Source and credit links open the publisher's website. The sign-in pages use system fonts.
